
Oldham U14s Crowned North West Champions and Secure Place at National Finals
Oldham’s U14 netball squad delivered an outstanding performance on Sunday 29th March, finishing 1st in the North West Regional League and securing their place at the England Netball U14 National Finals this May.
The day began with a highly anticipated clash against league leaders Kingsway Power - a fixture that was guaranteed to be one of the toughest tests of the season. Oldham found themselves trailing 4–9 at the end of the first quarter, but showed resilience and determination to turn the game around. A dominant 9–3 second quarter narrowed the gap to 11–12, followed by a strong 7–5 third quarter that saw Oldham take the lead at 18–17. The team finished in style, winning the final quarter 9–3 to secure an impressive 27–20 victory.
The second match of the day served as the title decider, with another showdown against Kingsway Power. Knowing their opponents needed a win to level the standings, Oldham remained composed under pressure. After a competitive start, they edged the first quarter 6–4 and extended their lead with an 8–4 second quarter, going into halftime 14–8 ahead. Despite a challenging third quarter, which they lost 7–10, Oldham held their nerve in the final stages. Showing maturity and composure beyond their years, they closed out the game with a 26–24 victory.
These performances confirm Oldham as U14 North West Regional League Champions - a remarkable achievement that reflects the team’s hard work, resilience, and talent.
Head Coach Pamela Hazelton said: “I am extremely proud of the girls for all the hard work they have put into training over the past few months leading up to the regional finals. The squad has made excellent progress and are now ready for a focused few weeks of training ahead of the national finals in May.”
The squad now looks ahead with excitement to representing the region at the England Netball U14 National Finals.
