"He brought me to Oldham Netball Club and gave me so many opportunities to thrive, was a huge support to me and my family, and always believed in me. I wouldn’t be where I am without Mike. I have so many amazing memories growing up playing for Oldham Netball Club, he created an amazing legacy and we all miss him very much."

Mike Greenwood, a revered figure in the netball world, founded Oldham Netball Club in 1987 after retiring from the army. His vision and dedication transformed the club into a powerhouse of English netball. 

Greenwood's coaching prowess extended beyond Oldham. He served as the head coach for Northern Thunder, initially for a season in the Super Cup. Taking full control in 2008, he orchestrated a remarkable turnaround, leading the team from the bottom of the table to a second-place finish in 2011.

In addition to his club commitments, Mike Greenwood had a successful tenure coaching England's U17 and U19 teams. However, his unwavering passion for Oldham Netball Club eventually led him to focus all his energies on nurturing and developing talent within the club.

Mike Greenwood's journey with Oldham Netball Club began in 1987s when he founded the club. With a passion for sports and an eye for talent, he quickly became a cornerstone of the club, dedicating his time and expertise to nurturing young players and transforming Oldham into one of the premier netball clubs in the country.

Greenwood's coaching philosophy centred around discipline, skill development, and teamwork. His approach was holistic, focusing not only on the physical aspects of the game but also on the mental resilience and sportsmanship required to excel at the highest levels. Under his guidance, Oldham Netball Club flourished, producing a steady stream of talented players who would go on to achieve national and international success.

Among the many players Greenwood coached, several stood out and made significant contributions to the sport on the global stage. Tracey Neville, who later became the head coach of the England national team, credits much of her success to Greenwood's mentorship. Similarly, Karen Greig and Jade Clarke, both of whom have had illustrious careers with the England national team, were products of Greenwood's meticulous coaching.

Mike Greenwood's impact on Oldham Netball Club and the broader netball community was profound. He was known for his unwavering commitment to his players, his strategic acumen, and his ability to inspire those around him. Greenwood's passing in 2011 was a significant loss to the netball world, but his legacy continues to live on through the countless players he coached and the enduring success of Oldham Netball Club.

In recognition of his contributions, the club continues to honour his memory, ensuring that his values and passion for the game remain at the heart of Oldham Netball Club. Mike Greenwood's name is synonymous with excellence in coaching, and his influence will be felt for generations to come.
